1. How do we begin? - Step 1 Obtain Domain Name - Your Domain name is your WWW address that the world will use to find your web site. Your Domain name could be your company name or even your personal name. Your Domain Name should be as short as possible ( easy to remember) and when ever possible try to purchase your Domain Name with the (.com) dot com as the extension. The extension is the three letters after the dot. The most common is of course (.com) followed by (.org) and (.net). To check for availability and to purchase your Domain Name follow this link: http://www.verio.com Step 2 Obtain a Hosting Company - The Hosting Company the company that owns the computer your web site resides on. One usually purchases storage space on a 3 month, 6 month or 1, 2, or 3 year plan. We do of course provide Hosting for a fee or you may choose your own Hosting Company. Once steps 1 and 2 are complete ZeroByte Designs can then begin the design of your site.
2. How many pages will I need? - The number of pages will be determined by the amount of information you wish to convey to the public. In some cases it could be as few as one or two pages for say an informational site to as many as several hundred if your business involves sales of many products. Typically a site would contain 3 to 4 pages laid out as follows; 1. The Home page - This is the first page the visitor will see. You should think of your home page as the top fold of the NY Times. Within the first page the user should be able to look at your home page and know all that is contained within the site. 2. The Services Page - Basically, this page would be used to promote your service. 3. Contact Us - This page would display all contact information. Additional pages could be added for About Us information , A Links Page - If you have many other sources of information that can be accessed on the web.
3. Why can't I have just one LONG page? - The length of the page and the number of graphics on the page determine the length of time the page will take to download and appear on the visitors screen. We believe that the longest a page should take to appear is 30 seconds and we strive to build pages that load within 18 and 20 seconds.
4.How long will the design phase take? - Once the basic design of the site is approved, a typical 3 to 5 page site will take about two weeks to build. Larger more complicated sites will take up to 60 days to complete.
5. What are ZeroByte Designs Payment Requirements? - If ZeroByte Designs is to provide Hosting and Domain Name setup, these funds will have to be paid in advance. Once the BASIC design of the page is approved and the approximate number of pages agreed upon a payment of %50 of the total must be paid in advance. The Balance due upon completion of the site. Final activation of the site to the public will take place once your check has cleared our bank.
